Requirements:
Consideration will only be given to candidates meeting the following minimum requirements:
- Honours degree or equivalent in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Applicants must have an Honours degree in the above stated fields and applications can also be made while in the final year of the prior degree on condition that the degree is completed before the commencement the studentship
Research Fields
The Masters student needs to conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
- Robotic platform design
- Robot software design and development
- Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm development and implementation
- Computer vision and/or machine learning
- Navigation, path planning and mapping.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the following responsibilities.
- Prepare research proposal to be approved by both the CSIR and the university;
- Prepare written literature overview of the current state-of-the-art relevant to the research topic;
- Perform original research to solve the open research problem that the student identified in his/her proposal;
- Produce sufficient quantity and quality of peer-reviewed publications based on this research topic;
- Compile the Master’s dissertation and defending the work successfully;
- Contribute to extra activities that may be outside the scope of the master’s research as per the needs of the research group. The amount of such work shall be limited to 20% of the total time
