Goldwind Opens Bursary Programme for Renewable Energy and Business Studies in 2026

Goldwind has opened applications for its 2026 bursary programme, extending financial support to South African university students studying in fields linked to renewable energy, technology, and business. The bursary forms part of the company’s wider skills development efforts connected to South Africa’s growing wind energy sector.

The funding is aimed at undergraduate students registered at accredited higher education institutions and is structured to support disciplines that contribute directly to clean energy development and long-term project sustainability. Applications for the 2026 academic year close on 15 February 2026.

How the Bursary Fits Into the Renewable Energy Sector

South Africa’s renewable energy industry has expanded steadily over the past decade, creating demand for a wide range of skills beyond engineering alone. Large-scale wind projects require technical expertise, digital capability, and strong business support to operate effectively over their full lifespan.

The Goldwind bursary is designed with this broader skills mix in mind. By supporting both technical and business-related qualifications, the programme reflects how renewable energy projects are planned, financed, built, and managed in practice.

For students, the bursary links academic study to a sector that is expected to remain central to South Africa’s energy future. For the industry, it contributes to building a pipeline of graduates equipped to support sustainable energy development.

Fields of Study Supported in 2026

Two bursary streams are available under the Goldwind Bursary Programme, each aligned to specific areas of study relevant to renewable energy operations and organisational support.

The NESA bursary stream supports undergraduate studies in technical and sustainability-focused disciplines. These include automation or mechatronics, development studies with an ESG focus, computer science, electrical engineering, and electronics engineering. These fields are closely linked to the technical systems and digital infrastructure used in modern wind energy projects.

The 4RE bursary stream supports undergraduate business qualifications. Fields considered include business administration, business management, economics, finance, human resources, and marketing. These disciplines support planning, financial management, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement within large energy projects.

Who the Bursary Is Intended For

The bursary is open to South African citizens who have completed Matric and are currently registered for an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields. Applicants must be studying at a recognised and accredited higher education institution in South Africa.

The programme is aimed at students who are committed to completing their studies and who see their qualifications as part of a longer-term career in renewable energy, sustainability, technology, or business support functions. Applicants who do not meet all eligibility requirements are not considered for funding.

What the Bursary Covers and How Funding Is Managed

The bursary provides financial support for approved study-related costs and is awarded on a competitive basis. Funding is structured to support one academic year at a time and is linked to the applicant’s field of study and academic registration.

Applicants are required to submit full financial documentation as part of the application process, including proof of registration, tuition statements, and household income information. Two motivational letters are also required, allowing applicants to explain both their choice of field and their interest in the Goldwind bursary.

All funding decisions are made by the bursary provider, and funding is awarded in line with the programme’s academic and sector alignment criteria.

Why the Programme Matters for Students

Access to higher education remains a challenge for many South African students, particularly in specialised technical and business fields. Financial pressure often affects students’ ability to focus on their studies or complete their qualifications on time.

Bursary programmes linked to real industry needs help reduce this burden while also improving alignment between education and employment. For students, this type of support provides financial relief and a clearer connection between their studies and future career opportunities.

In the context of renewable energy, early exposure to sector-aligned funding and development pathways can play an important role in shaping long-term career direction.
